Dal Tadka

Dal Tadka is a comforting Indian lentil dish, full of protein and flavor. Tempered with aromatic spices, this dish is a staple in Indian households and pairs perfectly with steamed rice or roti. Its simple yet soulful taste makes it a great lunch choice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • 1 green chili (slit)
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander

Instructions

  1. Wash dal and pressure cook with turmeric and water till soft.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and red chilies.
  3. Add chopped onion, sauté until golden.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook.
  5. Add tomatoes and green chili, cook until soft.
  6. Add red chili powder and salt. Mix well.
  7. Pour in the cooked dal and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  8. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
